Connecticut PTET 2026: deadline, rate, who can elect

Connecticut (CT), tax year 2026, from the same rules the connector returns. Last verified October 24, 2026.

Informational. Not tax advice.

Elective PTET

Yes

The pass-through entity tax is optional. An entity that elects must do so annually, and the election is irrevocable.

Who can elect

A partnership or an S corporation. A partnership includes a general partnership, limited partnership, limited liability partnership, publicly traded partnership, an LLC treated as a partnership, or another entity treated as a partnership.

The page defines those terms.

How the election is made

Written notice to the Commissioner no later than the due date, or extended due date, of the return. Checking the box on a timely filed Form CT-1065/CT-1120SI is that notice. The entity then files Form CT-PET.

Form CT-PET, the extension, and estimated payments must be filed and paid electronically.

Election deadline

The due date, or extended due date, of the return. Form CT-PET is due on or before the fifteenth day of the third month after the close of the taxable year, March 15 for a calendar year, or the next business day when that date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.

The election notice and the return due date are both stated on the page.

Rate

For taxable years commencing on or after January 1, 2024, the tax equals six and ninety-nine-hundredths percent multiplied by the tax base. The tax base is the resident portion of unsourced income plus modified Connecticut source income.

Conn. Gen. Stat. § 12-699(b) and (c). This is the statute, not the 2025 form. The section does not state a later rate.

Owner relief

A person subject to the chapter 229 tax who is a member is entitled to a credit equal to that person's direct and indirect share of the tax due and paid under section 12-699, multiplied by eighty-seven and one-half percent. Excess over the chapter 229 liability, other than the section 12-707 liability, is treated as an overpayment and refunded without interest, except as provided in section 12-739 or 12-742. A resident or part-year resident also receives a credit for a substantially similar tax paid to another state or the District of Columbia, calculated in a manner consistent with section 12-704.

Conn. Gen. Stat. § 12-699(f).

Estimates

Installments are due on the fifteenth day of the fourth, sixth, and ninth months of the taxable year and the fifteenth day of the first month after the year ends. For a calendar year those dates are April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. The page states the cumulative prior-year and current-year percentages for each installment.

The page also states a required-annual-payment rule. A dollar threshold was not copied because the extracted sentence was incomplete.

Sunset or repeal

Section 12-699(b) allows the election for taxable years commencing on or after January 1, 2024. The section, read through subsection (i), does not state an end date.

The history note says P.A. 23-204 made the tax elective for taxable years commencing on or after January 1, 2024. No sunset subsection was in the fetched section.

  • The 2025 Form CT-PET instructions multiply by 6.99 percent and describe a member credit schedule. The instructions say each form is year specific. Stated for TY2025; the 2026 form was not used.
